I've searched the world over.. And I can't find a place that sells a hydraulic exhaust control valve.

My '49 8N was working fine last year, and then my lift arms wouldn't drop.

After taking the pump out, I found the exhaust control valve spring had came out of the valve cylinder. It seems that what ever keeps the spring inside, is rotted out and gone.

Is there a replacement out there anywhere that will take my money?

Thank you.

The item that keeps spring in there is a very simple flat strap, about 1/8" wide and a length that is equal to the diameter where spring resides and approximately 1/16" thick. Somewhat difficult to press spring down in there and insert strap at angle, then straighten up as spring is released against it. Spring force will keep it in place.

Wow. Thanks for the picture. Now I know what it should look like.

My valve end appears to be rotted out, and the strap is no where to be found.

I found a guy at a NH dealer with new/old stock, and he has 4 different sizes.

Can I just use a caliper and measure the diameter, to get close?

Thanks to all.
Dave.

As I recall, they were fitted to less than 0.001 inch, or tenths of a thousandths of an inch. You can likely only get close.

The strap that holds the spring in the exhaust control valve.

Now I have something to measure to make the new one.
