Hello,

I have an Oliver 1800a that I would like to fix up. The tractor is in great shape except for the steering. The original Gemmer box is leaking, tends to be difficult to operate in both directions.

I know some of these 1800s can be switched to full hydrostatic steering with a charlynn system.

My question is whether this can be done with the early models that had the Gemmer units. Can the Gemmer unit be swapped out for a different steering box that is compatable with the charlynn drive unit?

If this impractical or impossible, where can I have the Gemmer unit rebuilt, if at all?

Thanks so much!

D

Do you intend to install a loader on the tractor at some point? If so I would go with the hydostatic steering. Question? Not to take anything from Phil's answer, but I think the nut on the main shaft has worked loose. Do you have a shop book? How about a 2000 PSI pressure gauge? My e-mail is open. J.
