I tried to do a post in tractor tales and hit preview and 5 minutes latter it still had not gone to submit

If the system is busy, and being hit by high concentrations of bots, and the database software has started to memory leak, the system will slow down and remain so until the traffic backs off and/or I reset the database.

If it sits there on a screen for more than say 40 seconds, it's never going to come back. The protocol times out fairly quickly.

I have to put the new server in to fix this permanently. I haven't yet done the last test I wanted to do to be comfortable that when I bring it up, we won't be down for many many hours.

I'll almost bet I know why it would not post. It was a post that you or Kim was deleting as I was trying to do the post since it is gone now
