As I posted before I do not have a wiring diagram showing an alternator on a 580CK, hopefully someone has the right schematic with an alternator and will pitch in on that. When I see your pictures I'll see if I can figure out what needs to change for the schematic I have to work with your alternator. I don't want to give you something that will mix you up more.

I will also see if I can identify the switch you are asking about. While you are trying to get your pictures to post, Is it the same as this switch, with green wires going to it, by the shifter on this 480? If you are taking pictures with your phone the files may be too large and you need to reduce the size.

That is the Neutral Safety Start switch which (I told you by the schematic) should have a yellow wire coming from the start terminal of the ignition switch hooked to one of its terminals and another yellow wire going from its second terminal to the S terminal on the starter solenoid.

Again you know the wiring may not all be original so you cannot get hung up on colors, you need to chase out the wires you have and see what they run between, just like these two. If someone has taped a bunch of wires together to make a harness you may need to cut the tape so you can follow the wires. You may find they spliced a different color on the end of a wire and the color further back matches the schematic and is correct at the second termination point.

Also, does your tractor have an ammeter or just the charging indicator light?

There is a tag on the alternator. What is all the information on that tag. A photo will work if the info can be read in the photo.

Another thing I don't think you answered and makes a difference in the wiring is: Does it have a charging indicator light in the dash or does it have an ammeter?

It appears you have a charging indicator light in the dash (small light at the left), no ammeter. It should have a brown wire to that light from the ignition switch. The second brown wire on the light should go to the Aux terminal on the alternator. It looks like it, or another, is connected there on the alternator now. The large red wire is on the battery or output terminal of the alternator and should go either to a circuit breaker, terminal block, or the battery post on the solenoid. Those are the only two wires from the tractor harness I see in your picture of the alternator. From what I can see in your picture the regulator, mounted on the back of the alternator, is wired correctly.

I don't know what might have been in the open hole in the dash.

On the Massey forum you asked about a link to the Case parts book for your father's 580CK. Here is the link to the Case Construction Equipment Parts Manuals. https://partstore.casece.com/us/parts-search.html?csid=2c6c56c337b521b2a47a010b0ff745a2&sl=EN&currency=#epc::home . Click "Find parts by model". Enter 580 in the search box and search. You will get 2 pages of manuals with 580 in the titles. The 580 tractor ((580) CASE CONSTRUCTION KING TRACTOR (BSN 8685800) (NORTH AMERICA) (1/66-12/71)) is the 5th from the bottom on the first page you see. That is just the tractor, you need a different manual for the loader and backhoe. Search 33, I think that is the one you will need. 33 loader is 11th from the bottom of the page 1 list. When you open it is for the 33 loader and backhoe both.
