That’s gotta be a Minnesota thing. That was the old TEMPO store is St. Cloud. The store is long gone. It’s a bank now. They just sheltered and built around the folks. They’re talking about weather, crops, casserole recipes, family cousins, animal husbandry, canning secrets, and the like, but not religion or politics! They’ve said they’re going a thousand times, but neither side will make the move to break off talks for the chance that they might be labeled as prudish. They are so engrossed they don’t grasp the fact that you, their children, are gone and grown and that the ‘67 Pontiac Tempest in the parking lot was crushed at Phillips’ Iron and Salvage years ago already. Long before Phillips closed down and even longer before Pontiac closed down.

Sounds like my mother-in-law but she is from Texas. If someone makes eye contact with her they are in for all the stories of her life history. We have seen people just walk away while she is still rambling on with one of her stories.

I used to fly with a fellow who would ramble on and on.
The airplane was so noisy that we could only use the intercom
Sometimes I would unplug my headset and clip the cord onto the map holder on the control column.
Something like 20 minuets later, he would look over and shout
"YOU A$$...."

Always made my day
Stan

Ah yes, the Minnesota goodbye! My wife is a pro at that. When we go somewhere in a group setting, you can bet we will be the last to leave! A new conversation will start as we are walking out the door, which is always good for at least 10 minutes--and visiting all the way out to the car! And sometimes 5 more minutes after I start the car before we finally drive away!

There's a nice woman in our town, very friendly, buy you NEVER ask "Well how ARE you?" unless you got 45 minutes to kill.

My mother perfected an unbeatable technique for dominating conversation. You kept thinking that you would get a word in when she paused between sntences, but there was never a pause. Finally you realize that she was always taking her breaths mid sentence.
