Jim,so tell us about your GMC Pick Up truck,I had a a 2.5 ton GMC truck, with a box and hoist,, with the 302- 5 speed Clark transmission, the easiest smoothest shifting truck, that i have ever been around,and i sold it, one of the dumber things i ever did!

I'm not Jim but I have my dad's 64 GMC long bed P/U with the V6. Over 200,000 on the engine. Few minor problems in the past like breaks, water pump & ETC. Right now, slip out of high gear & short in horn button in steering wheel. Runs very good but it still thinks gas is a quarter a gallon. Big tree limb fell on it, did a good bit of damage. Had that fixed. setting out there waiting for me to take it for a spin.

Purchased in 1982 in Flagstaff, I bought it sight unseen for $100.00 I have done nothing but a water pump to the engine in the years I have owned it. it has 75000 miles or so It has never seen salt. The engine is a 270 CID high deck. full oil pressure, and holds it at 35 when fully warmed up. It has never seen salt. The widow maker 17 front wheels, and split rimmed 17 rear are gone. I could not find good split rims to replace the fronts, and all the tires were 50 years old or older. So new 10 ply rated 16" on American Racing (one ton rated) aluminum wheels. The trans is 4 speed, and it is a heavy 3/4 ton. I replaced the bushing in the steering kingpins with needle bearings on SAE 4142 QT steel king pins I fabricated. New brakes and brake hydraulics, and rewired with Plus one wiring and 8 plug style fuses in fuse blocks. It has been driven all across the western USA. I am not selling it ever, and neither will my son.

I grew up in a 49 GMC Deluxe cab, whole family packed in it with back full of firewood.

I miss that truck.

i notice your seat belts, i have a 1965 chev 2 ton and has no belts so wondered about installing some. guess a chain should hold me down too! lol. the lap belt should be sufficient i hope, as the shoulder harness came later on .

We had a 2 ton GMC when I was a kid in the 50's- it had the famed "270 Jimmy" engine, and a flatbed with a hoist. Dad bought a stack of pea silage about 10 miles away, and every day after morning milking we would go get a load. While dad pitched it on, I found pickled peas and ate them. They were about the shape of an aspirin tablet and tasted great. Didn't understand until later why he told me not to tell mom about it (I thought at the time that she would think it would spoil my lunch).

I bought one of those from an old farmer when I was about twenty years old. Dark green with a dump box, stack of leaf springs about a foot tall with half broken. Gmc motor was pretty used up so I bought a Chevy engine form the junk yard for fifteen bucks that ran like new. Got an old radio from the junk yard that would only fit upside down but worked.

Gave eighty bucks for the truck, replaced brakes, bunch of spring leaves, some new used tires on those dam split rims and that was my hunting/fishing and general just screwing around truck until somebody offered me around $400. for it.

But Gab, the Chev engine was shorter so did that all work? i am curious!!!

Used about a 1/2 inch chunk of steel a little wider than the mount and bolted it to the mount and the frame. Worked fine.

I love it! The 3/4 tons were much better built then the 1/2 tons. No torque tube and real live oil pressure. Was the ashtray full? It reminded me of the Blues Brothers When Beluchi threw out the lighter.

I have a cover for the tray that leans out, and the tray but I can't find the cover (in a box some where!!!) Jim
