Hi guys last fall I was on here asking about switching my 1850 diesel to 1000 rpm shaft. I made the mistake of shifting it while the 540 shaft was in. Someone on here said a pin falls down and makes the little shifting plunger stuck in place. Right now the pto doesn’t work. The shifter is stuck in no mans land. I got the whole pto unit out of the tractor and thought I would ask before tearing it apart. Can you guys give me a simplified way to go about fixing it? I assume I separate the outside housing from the inside. Is there anything I have to take apart before that? Then will it be obvious once I get in there? As always I really appreciate all the help you’ve given me over the years. You were a big part of helping me get started farming with Oliver’s. This tractor was in the Oliver magazine a couple years ago. It’s my favorite tractor on the farm. |

The best thing is to have a service manual. Its really not all to hard to take apart. Go on youtube and search Chris Losey "oliver 50 series pto rebuild" he has a few videos on rebuilding one. |

While you do that you need to rework the clutch. Send me an e-mail. |

Thanks guys. The videos really helped. I got it apart. The pin just hung up. I’m putting all new seals in it now that I’m that far. I don’t think the plunger popped forward when I pulled the 540 shaft. |

While you are there have the clutch machined a little. It will prevent that drag on the clutch disk! |

Get in contact with J. He has the info on the pto clutch parts that need to be machined to stop the drag and constant spinning of the shaft. He helped me out with it. |
