Trying to get the parts I need ordered for a brake job, and while Im there, figured I replace axle seals
also. Having troubles deciphering the parts sites to make sure I get all the right seals, and dont miss
any.

Its a 52.

Does anyone have a list of all the seals I might need to knock this out when I get it to the shop?

This is what I did/do, got me a fo4 manual, read it. Best move I made is getting the Ford tractor Master parts catalog. 1939-1953. 9n, 2n, 8n, and naa. Shows every part and lists all the numbers. These books will be a life/time saver now and in the future. Good luck!!

The outer grease seal for either 48 to 51 are 51 up up are basically the same... Either will work. Whodathunk it...

The first design is a double lip the second a Sigle lip that's the only difference... I use the old retainer and replace the seals.

Either will work.

Howdy Tom.
Glad to see you're still around.
Did you get that SOS installed?
I still have that filter for one.
I couldn't find it for a long time, then found it. Think I could find it again.
Would still send it to you if you want it.
I did get the 8 sp and rear end put in my 4200.
It's still not quite done. Needs the fenders put back on, white stripe on the hood, etc. but it's doing snow duty with a back blade this winter.

Yeah I did. Got that knocked out last March finally. It shifts really great now. My boy ran it on a IH5100 drill and planted all our cover crop rye last fall.

After I pulled that transmission out of the one sos, I stood it on end, pulled the input shaft and sent it off to get rebuilt, and plans are to drag my grandpas 4000 in and do the same, or at least swap the shafts. It was split 10-12 years ago after it ate the clutch splines, and shaft was pretty bad then. It ate another clutch the spring of 2019 I think it was, so hopefully a shaft with new splines will run it on light duty for another few decades.

That narrow front would be pretty handy to maneuver around with.

What did you do to make it shift better?

Just swapped out my old transmission with the one I got from you. There must be some oil leaks in the inside of the old one.

Its running well enough now, I may get motivated to tear the engine down and give it a fresh set or rings. Its funny, doesnt use oil, but has a fair amount of blow by. Starts good, pulls hard, just smokes out the breather. It had sat for a few years before I got it, Id sort of figured that it had a stuck ring, but also figured theyd work themselves loose, but not so far.

I also bought another one. Supposedly the engine runs, but old guy got bored, and removed both the carb and the complete distributor, to rebuild them. Transmission Im not so sure about, but so far its contributing some good parts for the others.

I have 2 sets of gas pistons for a 201
gasser here. Would let them go pretty
reasonable. They came out of school
tractors so were run but as you know they
are essentially new.
I have 3 decent tractors and likely won't
buy any more. Would like to get rid of a
sizeable stash of parts and put the $ into
other hobbies.

The transmission I got from you is a way better shifting unit than mine was. Im somewhat of the opinion that someone had been into it and done some work to it before you got it, but maybe it was just a low hour tractor.

Since then, also picked up another one. SOS is a little suspect Ive learned, but isnt running. Old guy had removed the Distributor to keep in his basement so it didnt get stolen, and had removed the carb to take it apart and rebuild it. Havent found the motivation to start on it to see if engine actually runs.

The one I put your transmission in runs, but smokes out the breather. Doesnt smoke out the exhaust to speak of (its a gas) but certainly puffs more than it should out that vent, or out the dipstick if you pull it while running. Doesnt really burn oil, and dont see it loose antifreeze. Starts good, and runs fine under a hard pull. It had sat before I got it a few years and had only gotten intermittent use before that, so I suspected a stuck ring, but after running it as I have, Im becoming doubtful its going to fix itself. Been trying to decide if I tear it down to put new rings in it, or take a chance on this other motor.
