hyd pump drive

How do you remove the drive coupler for the hyd pump on a H? I need to replace seal where it goes into trans. Thanks

Carefully, unscrew all the side ports, any elbows if there is any on the topside,have a extra person there to help you if your old like me,it's heavy,have some 4x4's there to set it on, take the 4 bolts out of the bottom,slowly let it come down, the drive collar will fall out most likely! The fun part is reinstalling it!

Remove pins from collar on both ends of shaft and slide collars. If oily in there they should be easy to slide. If rusted more difficult.

You may be able to do it without taking the pump out. There should be a cotter key (or nail) in each end Loosen the pump, and see if you can get clearance to drop it out. Watch for binding on the elbow fittings and control shaft. Jim

In reading your post, it sounds like the leak is on the transmission side.

Removed the drive shaft for the pump, should be two cotter keys, slide the collars and the slotted shaft drops out. Then use a square pry bar to remove the drive coupling from the transmission drive shaft - it is threaded on, regular right handed threads. Righty tighty and lefty loosey.

3 bolts removes the seal retainer, stuff a rag up there to stop the oil from running out. Remove the old seal from the seal retainer and drive the new one in. Original seals were very thick, two to 3x thicker than a modern replacement. ONE modern replacement seal should be plenty.

Re-assemble and go to work. Just did this over the weekend on my M.

A couple threaded rods on opposite corners will let it down with little problem though will be slow going. I usually just put a rod through the hole on the bottom and lift with 2 guys at each side.
