Hi, I've been searching for 10 over Diesel pistons for late 4 cylinder 801/4000 type engine for Ford Tractor. The block number is CONN6015J. Its the block that
has the oil filter boss cast into the block. I've checked all the usual places including Yesterday Tractor Store. Im looking for pistons only so the cylinders can
be bored and with out using sleeves. Any ideas for me. Thanks Mark |

Doubt you're going to find .010 over pistons. They don't even show in the NH parts catalog. .020 and .030 are shown though. |

Thanks Bern, Thats interesting. That makes sense because I only found rings 20 and 30 over. Thanks very much. That information helps me look for the correct thing instead of something that doesnt exist. Mark |

The practice is to locate pistons , then bore to the piston size. Never even heard of .010 over pistons. |

As Rustred indicated you are going at it backwards. Take the block to the machine shop. They will assess your block and source the pistons and then bore to the correct diameter for whatever pistons turn up. They are doing it every day. They will also most likely save you significant money. |

There's one step before yours: measure the bores first, determine the dimensions of the worst one, then figure out what size pistons you need to clean up the hole.
I'm rebuilding a small block Chevy right now. I measured the worst hole at about .017 wear. I thought about going .020 oversize, but the machinist talked me into going .030. He said I likely could not measure the full extent of the wear using a rounded tool up against the ring ridge step. Made sense to me. |

That MAY have been a waste of 0.010" of cast iron.
He could have waited with ordering the pistons and bored the worst hole first to see if it would clean up at 0.020", and if not then proceeded to order the 0.030" pistons, IMHO. |

Actually, that MAY have been a waste of .005 of cast iron. 5 thou on each side of the cylinder wall equals 10 thou overall on the diameter. |
