I have a 1979 ford 4600 that I recently purchased and an hour into brush hogging the steering box gave out. One of the bearings was cracked in half and caused some internal damage (sleeve scratched, see second photo). See attached photos. Is this something that a machine shop can repair? or is this unit scrapped? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Unfortunately you can not post photos on this forum until you have 10-15 posts

Can't help you have your question, my early model 4000's didn't use that box.

Where are you located?
I know of a steering box from either a late
4000 or 4600 for sale in Brookings, SD.
Owner said it worked fine but had started
leaking from the top seal. He just replaced
it with another one he had. I was going to
buy it for a spare but probably won't now.
Price was pretty reasonable - $200?
If you are interested email me and I could
put you in touch with him.
Nice fellow. I bought a dead 4600 from him
a couple of years ago.

If you change to Modern View (link at top right of the page), Utradog's post has a button at the bottom that says "email". You should be able to click on that and shoot him an email. It comes from the forum and doesn't actually show you his email address or show him yours, so you need top include that in your message.

Don't get him started on modern view.
That is a big suck.
Go to Classic view.
In the lower right corner of EVERY one of
my posts it says send email.
Click that and follow directions.
If you don't know how to get to classic
click the link below. That will take you to
this thread.

Ultradog, when I look at things in classic view, every one of your posts has a link on the bottom right that says "No Email":

And when I click on that link it displays a page that says the following:

The author of this message has not provided an email address or has hidden it from view. If you wish to contact them, simply reply to the message post and they will see it the next time they view the discussion.

They are still able to receive notifications of responses if they checked the "Email Notification" box when the message was authored.

Press the Back button on your browser to return to where you were.

I didn't know you had to login separately to the different views. You learn something new every day. I prefer the modern view because just about every other forum on the internet that I frequent uses that style. The classic view hearkens back to dial-up BBS systems and I guess that's why some of you old timers prefer it.
