My 1939 B Allis Chalmers tractor hydraulics started slowly to quit working. It started by having problems at times lifting the hitch and has totally stopped working completely. The fluid has been checked several times with no luck. We have not been able to determine any other problems with the hydraulics. Anyone have any suggestions or similar situations?? Thanks!

What type of fluid do you have in the trans/rear?
80/90 will not work. Hydra-trans is what most guys are using. LOL Bob

if your using a 20 wt or hytrans type oil, and NOT gear lube.... then look at the two rotating discs on the shaft of the valve/pump. When you pull, push the lever, one disc moves a little, then pushed the other disc. There are a coupe small springs and one disc is pinned to the shaft. make sure the pin is not broken, and both discs rotate freely.... If all is weell, then spring / spool inside need cleaned and rebuilt.

Gentlemen I started this thread to help a friend who wants to get his Grandfathers tractor operational again. He does not have any Manuals or anything of that sort, but was hoping that you guys could walk him through it with a picture or two as well. He will come along soon on the Forum. But I just wanted to get him started and show him that there are some very helpful info on the forum. I work mainly on Farmalls and I do also have a Ford in my collection. But I know as well as you that we all work together to solve problems. Thanks for any pictures that would helpful toward solving his problem.

From what I recall, The Hydaulic pump is a piston type and can get sticky if it has been sitting a while. The slowing and eventual quitting could indicate that or an o-ring failure. Don"t have the book in front of me at the moment. I run 30 wt. in mine. The pickup tube could be plugged up as well.
