my guess is you have a 3400. Year? i was going to guess '69, but the bucket valves look different...mounted lower with longer sticks.
Here's good go-to site for S/N's. If it is 3400 look for a foil sticker under the lift up hood that covers the battery, although the block, etc. should be stamped.

I agree with it being a 3400 and they were built from 65 to 75 so you really need to get the numbers to pin point the year.

its a soft nose 3400.. with 1965 to mid 1968 sheet metal.. however utility and industrial models tended to carry the older sheet metal longer than the all purpose farm models. Has probably a 730 loader on it. as others have said the numbers will tell exactly what it is or what is was,,, when it left the factory. |

well damn!
I had a guy at a "reputable tractor shop" tell me it is a 3000. And I have ordered a top end gasket kit for it and it is on its way. I don't suppose the 3000 kit works on the 3400?
anyone know?
I have this gasket kit..

If this kit doesn't fit can anyone link me to a kit that does? I need the head gasket as well.
thanks |

Pretty much same as 3000. Different front end, different oil pan. Rear-end ratio may be slower,
Tires are 24 inch industrial. |

GOT IT!
Thanks for the help!
1965 - 1968 Utility Tractor with PTO and 8 speed tranny
It is a 3400 with a 4.2 bore. There were a few years where the cylinder bore was 4.4 but I put a caliper on mine this morning and it is a 4.2
Utility means a beefier front end and bigger loader.

66 model serial numbers started at 124200
67 model serial numbers started at 161300
Your serial number of 143174 makes it a mid year 66 model
The letter C is for a US made tractor. |

The 3400 is the utility model in the 3000 series. All tractors in the 3000 series used the same engines. They were all 4.2 inch bore. The gasoline engines have a 3.8 inch stroke for 158 cubic inches, and the diesels have a 4.2 inch stroke for 178 cubic inches.
It was the 4000 series engines that had the 4.4 inch bore. |

Correction to a typo in my previous post since you can't edit them once they are posted. The diesel 3000 series engines are 175 ci, not 178. |

yup, you are correct. 4.4 bore in the 4000's 4.2 in the 3000's
I was on the phone with a parts guy telling me to make sure and measure the bore because it could possibly be a 4.4. Which is incorrect I have come to learn. |
