Just because you put a charge on the battery does not mean it is good. If it isn't, that charge won't last for long. If battery won't sustain a charge under load, then the generator can't keep it charged and you will just be running the tractor directly off of it, until it wears it down. You need to get the battery checked for specific gravity. You can buy a test hydrometer at any auto parts store, or, take the battery in to one or better yet, a starter/alternator shop and have it bench tested by them.

This "weak battery" thing happened to me a few days ago. I was at about 11.2 volts. It would crank over, but not fire. Thanks to all the gurus harping about "spark", I put a starter pack that raised the voltage to about 11.6 and it started right up. Left it on a charger for a few hours and now the problem is solved.
