9A39836 through 9A63157 are serial numbers for 1968 as James mentioned. Engine could be Continental gas G-206 or Perkins AD4.236, both about sixty HP.

My MF 180 came to me without a serial
plate. Is there anywhere else on the
machine where I can find any meaningful
numbers? (Was my father-in-law's so I'm
not worried about it's pedigree.)

Your subject line came up "Me-180" I was expecting a pic of the Messerschmitt 190's little brother.

The Messerschmitt was the 109. You are thinking of the Focke Wulf 190.
