I have 1969 756 diesel with the original oval shaped muffler. Just wondering when they began using this style? I see some 56's with smaller round and some with the oval. Did they switch over on the later models? Also wondering where to get a good replacement? I know the ovals are about double the cost of the round. Is one better than the other? I haven't had much luck with the Stanley's that you get from a&i and the farm stores. I have had to replace the muffler on our 656 gas twice in the last ten years and it sits inside. Thanks

806-Welcome to YT! I think that you will find that the muffler will last a lot longer on a diesel than a gas. I see this site list some in the $110-115 range. I cannot speak to their quality, but I would hope for that amount you are getting something fairly reasonable. I suspect you can still get one from IH, but not sure. It used to be an auto parts store that sold Walker brand exhaust could get fairly decent quality original style replacement tractor mufflers at a reasonable price. Finding a store willing to dig the book out that lists such products may be an issue in itself. Good luck.

If you are looking for a replacement muffler for your 756 Let me check tomorrow when I get to my repair shop, I have a new muffler, still in the box for the German diesel engine. I'll have to look at it to see exactly what it is. Charlie U

I don't know what's "original" but IMHO you should go with whatever you feel looks better. Personally I prefer the looks of the oval muffler on a diesel.

The parts book, which you can view online, shows that the oval muffler as part 530588R4 and $242. No serial number breaks are listed.

NELSON is your alternative to Stanley. I believe CaseIH dealers sell the Nelson mufflers, but you can go online and google the part number for a better deal. Not sure I'd trust the Amazon listing due to the picture, but with billions of products I'd imagine they'd get the pictures wrong here and there.
