My 1974 5000 has a CAV fuel injection pump. Is the CAV pump one you have to change the oil in or is lubricated by the diesel fuel??? Yes I have a repair manual but it only talks about Minimec pump. The manual says it covers 1965-1975. Any help is always appreciated!

CAV/Simms inline pumps need oil in the cam box, CAV DPA rotary pumps are lubricated by diesel fuel.

Thank you Dieseltech! I believe mine is the CAV rotary. I sure don't see any way of adding oil to the top of the pump. Only had the 5000 two years now. I rebuilt the head and did a few other minor things. Old girl runs and operates great! Still learning the tractor a little.

With an inline pump, the injector lines are in a row. With the rotary pump they are placed in a square pattern around the housing for a 4 cylinder engine.
