I"m looking at a backhoe that has been sitting for give or take 10 years. Two wheel drive and open cab and extendahoe, looks in fair condition, but the machine has to be gone through. Wiring issues,
leaking steering cylinders, hydraulic cylinders leaking and hoses will need changed , controls for hoe are rusted up and need to be freed up. Engine isn"t stuck but I would change all fluids before
attempting to start, muffler rusted off but exhaust covered. Tires hold air but are weather checked. Hope I give you a good picture of this in your mind. machine has potential with work. I want to
make a decent offer and I have looked on the internet, but haven"t found one to compare it to that is in the same shape. Can you give me your opinion what would be a fair price to offer? Thank you

Any, Any tractor that won't start and run is salvage plus a little. You need to find out why its been sitting all this time. All the things you speak off are maintenance issues that were never dealt with, that may be an indication of motor condition. But of course you know all that I've said, you ask for a value. 3000 would be my goal. Your money. gobble

I agree with Tom,it was very common for those 580's to strip teeth from the ring gear, have a close look at the hoe controls,it's one thing if the levers are frozen but another if the spool valves are rusted in the bores, scrap value would be a good guideline, buy a machine that is running so you can put it through it's paces before you commit yourself to a money pit,my two cents.

I sold Lots ( hundreds a year) of them in the ten years we sold them,, yes the ring gear issues showed up when the operator was loading the bucket and pulled the rear end off the ground and Dropped it with the wheels spinning,, the teeth on a spur gear and or bull gear was taken off when you had one wheel spinning and step down on the diff-lock,, I have seen them with 20,000 hrs and still on the original rear end components and I have seen them tore out in a couple hours brand new, operator error takes these out not a design flaw,, also seen a trans and rear end Toasted when they was towing it behind a roustabout truck doing 55 mph and they had failed to tighten the drain plug after the service they just did,, That was Ugly to repair and to pay the parts bill, I doubt there is a whole lot of issues I have not seen done to them lol

I agree with the others.
$3000.00 would be the most and I wouldn't pay that.
Running in good to fair condition is $10-15 K

You will get close to that if bring it 100% back.
I guarantee it has brake issues.
It was probably parked for a reason,Trans. axle, shuttle etc.

There good machines.
I have one I bought new in 81 to replace my 580C

Look for a runner and go from there.
That's a parts machine at best.

Start at market value for a similar machine in good condition and deduct what the parts would cost and the value of your labor and go from there. In good working condition that's a $8-9K machine in my corner of the world. $2K would be a good starting point.
