Hi again, I love this little tractor, but it is worrying me a bit.
Has been sitting for 10 to 15 yrs, and I now have it running reasonably other than the previously posted governor problem.
However when it is running there is a bit of a noise in the magneto that sounds like a dry bush, a sort of chattering noise that comes and goes. Is there any lubrication on the magneto? I have cleaned the points and lubricated the rubbing block etc, but this sounds like a shaft chattering in a dry bearing or bush.
Thanks again,
Rex

I think the mag should have bearings. You can pull the coil and see if there's any play where the magnets are. Hal

This web site will give you an idea of what parts are in a magneto. The maker of your mag may have one similar to this too. Hal
PS: I will double check this web site. Just in case I didn't include everything.

I did miss something. I won't rewrite the whole web site. When you get to GSS-5035%20Service
Add the 20 before Service. Hal

Thankyou el toro, I think I am going to have to get serious with this one.
I got on to the website thanks. That was some address!
I ran the tractor again, and I just can't ignore the noise. It is not loud, but a chattering sort of a vibration that you can feel with a hand on the magneto. That sort of thing just doesn't fix itself.
Thanks again, will let you know how it goes.
God Bless,
rex

It could be a dry bearing. Hal

Hal, good news. I pulled it off and could hear and feel the noise when turning it by hand. A drop of oil in the bushing behind the rotor and it stopped immediately.
It is back together and running very well. Thanks for that - happy tractoring.
God Bless,
Rex

Rex, I had one mag that made alot of metal between the rotor and the mqagnets! Check that bearing and replace it if necessary. Be careful to use lots of lube to free up bearing on shaft, otherwise the aluminum cast housing could bust as the bearing pushes on the circlip which holds the bearing in place. the whole mag can easily be wrecked if that bearing goes!

Good luck! chris.
