Hello, Im new to posting here, but have read many posts on this website. I just thought you all might be interested in the new toy I just picked up. Im planning to change engine oil in the near future and other basic maintenance, but is there any thing else I need to maintenance. Change transmission oil or just check and top off ect.

Thanks

Lee, you need to make a few posts before they'll let you put up pics. It's to keep spammers from having too easy a time of it. Congrats on your new toy--um, excuse me, I mean tool! Recommend you get a copy of the operator's manual to start with, it should cover all basic maintenance.

Welcome Lee, glad you came here, personally I would change rear end oil, engine coolant. I would obtain a operators manual.

You are in luck. You picked a tractor that has many manuals online. THey can be found at
http://imageevent.com/skipjack/vamanuals. All you have to watch for on the manuals is that in mid 1951 the changed the tractor a bit--mostly
sheetmetal and steering. Most of the manuals are for your tractor however,

if you are not familiar with older Case tractors one of the first things that might scare you is the oil pressure if it has an aftermarket 0-60lb
guage. These are low oil pressure engines and standard gauges only read 0-13 with the needle on the low side of the half way mark.

Cool tractor and trailer very happy for you. The VAC has good looking tires that’s worth a lot right there. I have a 1946 model that my mom’s family bought new after world war 2. Not the most powerful but it sure is dependable. It will start when none of my old tractors will! There is a lot of stuff online for these, but a manual probably would be a good buy. I’ll be watching to see how this progresses for you!

Sweet VAC! Do you know what year it is? I have always had a
soft spot for VACs. Dad had a VAC he outgrew and traded on a
new '51 DC, which we still have. About ten years ago I bought
this one which needed a lot of work. It is now field ready. I
will paint it someday, but I'm having aot of fun with it the
way it is.

The tractor is a 50 mode l serial starts with 54... I had a chance to drive it around today and every thing seemed to work well. The
only thing I noticed was the hydraulic pump makes some noise under pressure. Is this normal, or is there something I will need to
investigate.

Thanks,
Lee

When you remove the oil filter you have to slide it up and off a center hollow metal stem. Make sure the stem is there and make sure it doesn't come off with the filter.
