Hi Majorman, thats bringing back memories for me as my parents had family living in Sheffield during the war. I was bourne in 1943 with my twin sister and we lived near Newark and when my aunties and uncles came over to visit us in the late 40s and early 50s the often talked about the Flying Fortress that crashed in Endcliffe park.

Same Vintage! 1943 must have been a good year :O).

We are surrounded here with old and new USAAF bases and RAF ones too. Wendling and Shipdham were very active during WW2, One of my fathers first jobs when he joined the RAF Regiment was to stand guard over crashed aircraft in the area, before he was sent overseas just after "D Day". So like the man in the story, we have a constant reminder of the sacrifices made. There is a Memorial to USAAF fallen close by here at Beeston.

Will you be at the East of England Vintage Show this year MJ? We have a new book out on the 28th February about Wrights of Dereham and hope to have copies there. Fred Milk provided pictures and I researched and wrote it.

A note from the west side of the POND. Thank you for the reminder to remember those who served, and still serve. My father trained near our home farm in south western Ontario Canada. As an airman; yet since he was the only one left who could oversee the farm he was granted dispenstion to remain on the farm and stand by duty. Sufice to sayn many of the other relatives and family were allowed to ship over in verious capavcities from all branches of the forces. In areas from northern most Europe to Malta and Italy. I remember, now all have pased dad in the last almost 20 years now, those who came "home" those who didn't.
Thank you again for the reminder & the tears.

There was a full page article in our local newspaper yesterday about the flyover. Crewman and radio operator, Robert Mayfield, is buried about 15 miles from my home.

What a great tribute this was to some very brave young men!
