serial # placement

I have what i bielieve to be a 1942 case D. Where would i find the serial # to verify this?

If there is not a serial number tag on the dash, Check the rear engine flange just in front of the bell housing on the left side, it should be stamped there. This will be correct as long as the engine has not been changed.
