Anybody know what would cause the hydraulic lift on my N to hang up? This typically happens when I have my large grading box on and the hydraulics drift down slowly. The arms hang up and wont move with the 3 point control. Any suggestions,?

I would suspect the exhause control valve of sticking, usually due to 50+ years of contamination.

So, I'm at the point of tearing off the top end to check condition of the springs and pump, since I have more than one issue to take care of here ( the sticking issue, the hydraulic pump struggling after it lifts the grading box 8 inches, and an issue with lifting an implement when the draft control lever is down unless I push down on the lever). I'm going to do a good clean out of the sump, inspect and if necessary repair my pump and lift cylinder. The oil I pulled out looked horrible after a year of light use. Anyone have experience with this that they can pass on?

If it is an 8N there are supposed to be matchmarks on the upper lift arms and the top cover that align when the arms are in the fully raised position. Before you take anything apart, run the arms up and verify that the marks are there and that they align. If not, make your own because you will need them to make the internal adjustments.
