Just acquired a 1950 8N and in process of TLC fixes before using.
On left side of tractor, air filter, then starter, then at same height is a lever, just before steering arm. WHAT is it and what does it control. Find nothing in any manuals or parts list I have.

Thanks in advance

If it's on the tranny, could be a Sherman step up.

It's an auxiliary transmission, probably a Sherman. This page has a lot of information for N tractor owners; check out the Sherman page to ID the lever.
