the tractor will slowly die if the clutch is depressed only a little bit was told could be grounding issue if ground to engine is bad it is grounding through the clutch until it is pushed in or could it be part of the clutch acting up maybe throughout bearing where should the main ground cable be on the frame ?

Get out your jumper cables, clamp the black clamp to the ground terminal on the battery and the other black clamp to the base of the distributor or something close by. Wiggle the clamps real good to get good contact. Start the tractor, push in on the clutch and see what happens. Its real easy to do. If it still dies maybe the clutch linkage is touching a hot wire and shorting it out. My gut tells me the clutch linkage is shorting a wire but maybe not.
