JD A Shutters

I am restoring my JD A. I cleaned up the shutters and they work great. I am concerned if I spray paint the epoxy primer and
urethane paint on them they will no longer move. If I tape all of the moving rods, etc., there won't be much to paint. I wonder
if I should brush the primer and paint on as I would have more control as to where the paint goes. Perhaps the brush marks won't
show too much hidden under the grill. Any experience and/or suggestions?

Spray paint them and then move them open and closed.

I cleaned up the shutters on my JD 50 and got them working nice and free, then sprayed one coat of primer and two coats of JD green. No problems. I rigged a cable and linkage to manually operate the shutters.

Dear PJH: Did you rig the cable and linkage out of the tractor and moved it while the paint dried?

I opened and (almost) closed the shutters a few times, like Pete said, after each coat of paint. The shutters are completely hidden on the 50, but I did want a good coating of paint on them. They didn't stiffen up and they work real smooth.
