Working on a Ford 3000 gas. Will start and shut off when you let up on the key switch. I know the problem is that the wire from the coil back to the starter solenoid kills it when the switch is released. I know that there is supposed to be a resistor wire that goes to the coil. I and another guy looked for that wire and we can not find the wire. I can run a wire from the coil back to the "run" side of the key switch to get power to the coil? Where would the resistor wire originate from the switch end? I do not need the resister wire because I am using a true 12 volt coil with no resistor needed.

Sounds like you have it figured right.
I don't know what switch you have, but you're looking for the run
position as you indicated. Hot in run position and off when off.
Mine is wired that way as well. No resistor wire installed.

You sort of explained that part backwards (at least in my brain, which my wife says might not be like other people's :wink: ). The wire from the solenoid to the coil is what allows it to have a spark while the key is in the "Start" position, but when the key drops back to the "Run" position there is nothing else providing power to the coil at that point, so it is the key switch that is killing it, not that wire. But it seems like you have the rest correct.

Test your key switch. If the "Run" terminal is hot when the key is in both the "Start" and "Run" positions then you only need one wire from the "Run" terminal on the key switch to the coil and you can eliminate the other wire from the solenoid to the coil. If the "Run" terminal on the switch is only hot when the key is in the "Run" position, then you'll need both. The wire form the solenoid to the coil was only there originally to bypass the resistance wire during startup to provide the full 12 volts to the coil and provide a hotter spark making starting easier.
