I bought a 560 with no wheels and my neighbor Is parting out small 460 with tires pretty cheap. Is there a tool that would work to bore out 1/4" (only 1/8" per side) without costing alot?

He's wanting to slide the 460 hubs on the 560 axles. I really seriously don't think there is a machine with a cutter that would work.

Just change the rims on to different castings that fit the 560 axles. To bore them out would require a way to cut a key to keep them from slipping on the axle when you try to pull with it. Castings from an M would be the drop center castings. If that is what you have for rims might work. They would not work on a double bevel rim.

It could be done in a machine shop but it would be expensive since most shops are charging 75 to 100 bucks per hour. IMO

I figured the keyway would still be plenty good since it would only be losing 1/8"

Don't know your location but you should be able to purchase some wheels for the 560 for less than machining. Same rims and rim clamps from the 460 will work on the 560 wheels. Lots of other models with similar wheels, even 460 tractors with 2.75 axles. 460 and 560 wheels should have a removable steel key with grove machined in the wheel. 560 type wheels will be stronger if a user tractor. Axle clamps use 7/8 bolts to the 3/4 diameter for the 2.5 axle. Do you have axles with one keyway? IH kept changing the castings to combat center hub cracking. Think the castings ending with R5 were the best in the 560 period. If you can get cheap 400 and 450 castings would be worth a try. If I remember correct the late 450 were up to R4 castings.

What you are wanting to do would be expencive.. Go find a junk M to use as a donor for rims and cast wheels. Or,a 400 or 450 would also fit.

Early farmall 460's had 2 and 1/2 inch axles and a 560 has 2 and 3/4 axles , Nowlater 460's went with the 2 and 3/4 axles after they started breaking axles while under corn pickers and one with the heavy axle will work on a 560 but the small axle will not .

ooh wow, need to find a big machine shop for a reamer that size, plus keyway would need to be cut is a possibility. it wont just be around the corner. plus if the wording and info would be more in the correct terminology person don't have to wonder. " enlarging rear wheel hub holes" . plus not the best thing to do as weakening the hub under heavy load. still not clear if using the 460's hub and rims or what combination.

That would not be a fun job in a machine shop. You'd have to have one heck of a mill, like a Cincinnati number 5 to fit that on the table. Then they would have to somehow clamp it down after indicating off the existing bore to get it straight and true. An oil field type lathe with a plate could also work. Boring would be straight forward but you still have the keyway issue. You could grind a tool and use the carriage in and out to cut the keyway. Would work but very slow go.

I think you could buy an entire junk M-560 for what the job would cost (at least around here).

Check with salvage yards if they have any 560 wheels. You can probably find a set for somewhere between $50 to $250 depending how patient you are.

What would you consider "costing a lot"? It would probably cost well over $500 to have the 460 wheels re-machined, and the clamp bolts would still be the under size.

Depending where you live I agree with getting the correct ones. Here the value of them has dropped off to what scrap will bring. Heck I have a set I'd like gone but it would cost more for the gas to haul them to a scrap yard than I would get so they a piled up under a 560.
