F20 getting oil in coolant

Picked up an F20 that had oil in the coolant. Doesn t seem to be much water in the oil pan although it did have some. I think it was just condensation but not sure. I drained the oil and filled the radiator up so I ll watch if any leaks out. Wonder how oil could be getting into the coolant. No oil to head and limited oil passages? Isn t the troughs just fed by the tube?

Bad headgasket or cracked head.

I first thought possibly either but since no oil passages in block that feed into the head how it could be top end related?

Being a wet sleeve engine, it might be weeping at
o?ring.

I would think that with the radiator full, the water pressure would not let oil into the water jacket. I can definitely see where water would find it s way into an oil return if the head gasket is bad.

How much oil are we talking here? If you leave the oil pan empty and fill the radiator with coolant, If it is truly a bad head gasket or the sleeve o-ring is as, you should find coolant in the oil pan within a couple of hours.

On a similar note, When I assembled my engine, I was waiting a new manifold, so I taped off all the ports with 3" wide masking tape.
When I got to the point I could fill the radiator with water to check for leaks, I started finding water leaking into the oil pan.
Turns out that with the 3rd manifold stud back removed and the hole taped off, water was free flowing from a water jacket into the intake and it filled two cylinders with water and of course leaked past the rings. Once the stud was reinstalled with a little thread sealant, there was no water leak and no intake leak.
