working to fix a diesel in the crank case problem. Before tearing stuff up I figured I should check injection pump timing at least eye ball it as I am limited in time and tools. Lined up timing marks before removal and lined them right up when reinstalling. Took a bit but it started (quite a bit of white smoke to start) ran good but still had consistent white smoke not super heavy but it was clear it was there.

Figured if it runs decent must be close. Lined up the injector marks then looked at timing marks on crank pulley. Hard to see on the pulley but pretty sure it starts at 15 and ends at 35? If this is the case it appears I am a a smidge above 40( no more marks to be sure.

If I am thinking this right My injector pump is advanced roughly 12 degrees and could be a cause of the white smoke and possibally the wash of diesel into the crank case?

Thinking of turning engine to 29 btdc on the crank and aligning pump to that. Recognize so t be perfect but if I am thinking right should be a large improvement.

Or am I just gonna blow it up? Thanks for any thoughts
