970 hydraulic pump on 930

putting a 970 pump on the 930 to get rid of the power steering pump. the 930 had a face mount to suck oil the 970 had a tube that went into the pump.
How do I rectify that? Son did one a while back but doesn't remember what he did.

My son just did one on a 1030. He put a video on youtube I think with the dimensions of the adapter that he turned on the lathe. Basically you need to make a bushing to slip in where the tube goes on the 70 series pump that has a flange to mate to the O-ring on the 30 series casing. memory says the flange was .200" thick and about 1.375" diameter, copy the dimensions of the tube where it slides in the 70 series pump.

When he gets home I'll double check the dimensions with him.

I'm curious if you put any sort of filter or relief valve in this
circuit? Or just ran the line straight from pump to steering?

We are still using the original steering pump. She steers so good that I hate to mess with it. For now we are just dumping the steering section back into the PTO housing.


If the pump causes grief, it will get a regulating valve and a filter.

I need to rebuild the 3 point lift cylinder, so maybe it will happen this summer when I have it all torn apart.

It is my understanding that the easiest way to do this is to use the rear section from the 30 series pump, then everything matches up. But I'm no expert and haven't done it yet.

I did our 930 a few months ago, however years ago I had installed a 1070 pto on this tractor as I had a few of them just laying around, that way it would have dual speed pto. Anyways I already had the 70 series pump in it so I installed a 70 series steering filter assembly & then bought a 3 way pressure dump valve & installed inline. I did have to replace the lower seal in the steering gear box & after that I have good steering. Not really sure if you'd actually need the pressure relief valve or not but I put one in anyways.

Any gear pump has to have a relief valve if there is a way the flow can be stopped, IE steering turned against stop, if there is no where for the oil to go, somethings gonna break! and with that setup the belts not gonna slip.
