The PTO on my 4100 engages very aggressively, enough so that the PTO drive line slams. Does this even when tractor is at low idle. I can not
find any reference to adjustment in the manuals. Any ideas? Thanks.

There is no adjustment, unfortunately. Idle it way down. And s-l-o-w-l-y pull the handke forward is the best you can do.

Fordfarmer is correct, follow his advice and that's about the best you can do.

That said, Ford's solution to the problem for later models was a bracket around the handle that allowed the operator to pause mid-travel. It included an adjustable bolt for fine tuning. Something to look into.

Look in the parts book at a 4610 or even a 4630, and you should be able to at least see what it looks like. I'd normally provide a link, but the NH parts site currently has me a little irritated.

Thanks. Will do. I bought the 4100 a few years ago because the bearings on my '64 JD 2010RC evidently went out, and to repair was a major operation including splitting. Am going to bite the bullet and fix it.

Have done that. Unfortunately it just took out an EC6 Universal on my Land Pride 2560, and it was less than a year old. Afraid to use on my Hesston 5530 Rounder!

check this old discussion,a little down the page is a parts book picture and part numbers, we installed a lot of them when the 10's first came out, you could fine tune the bolt to where the pto just
began to take up the load and turn, then you could fully engage the pto
PTO feathering stop

Thanks for looking that up Joe. I knew that I had posted that many years back, but I have never been able to master the search function on this site.
