I recently purchased a Vermeer 1850 trencher for my own use. I have used it once and it worked well. My problem is I cannot get it to backfill. When I run back over the trench, it does not reach the fill dirt. If I drive up on the fill dirt the auger is too high to work. The book does not mention backfilling. Does anyone have experience with these machines that could help me out?

I've operated trenchers, along time ago, both walk behind and riders, never a Vermeer. The only ones that would back fill were the riders, and they used a blade, like a snow plow.

Thanks for the reply. I thought the auger that removed dirt would also backfill. It has been awhile since I hired a trencher, he had a rider with a blade. Maybe he used the blade and I'm remembering wrong.

No, your machine is not built to do backfilling.

Look at a Vermeer AB26 blade. Cant say if one could be fitted to your machine or not. But something to look at.
