I had taken the carburetor off and after giving it a good cleaning found the the part number. TSX 805 and then 55 also stamped into the body. Not able to associate that model number with a Ferguson tractor I looked it up on Carbs Unlimited and found this model was used on a John Deere 55 Combine. I assume someone had gotten from the scrapyard and used it as a replacement at one point. My question is would I be better off purchasing a carburetor that replaced the original that was installed at the factory when it was new? I know the tractor was running at some point with this carburetor, but i don't know how well. Any help would be appreciated.

If the governor link connected properly (held closed at idle, spring loaded full open at full throttle, engine off),
the choke link works, fuel line in the correct position, then it should be close enough to run.

If you can fine the spec on the size venturi, and it is the same, and the main jet is adjustable, I would use it and find the correct venturi if needed.

If you decide not to use it, find another repairable original, or a rebuilt original. The aftermarket new are aluminum generic fit-alls that are not the same quality as original.

Thanks I checked the venturi size and they are not the same. I think I will purchase a rebuilt one. Still have a lot to do before I get to the point off putting everything back together. Waiting on gas tank and radiator to be cleaned and restored. This has been an interesting project for sure.
