I was reading my latest Oliver Heritage magazine and on page 8 was a picture of the same brake assembly we have on our S77 diesel. Sherry provided the manufacturer's name(J.E. Engels) and a advertising brochure below the picture. She really does a good job providing identification on old stuff.
We had previously looked our brake assembly over and found no marking of any kind on it. It is a very clever add-on and works very well. We bought the tractor in Central PA many years ago and up to now had never seen another Oliver with this brake locking aid. We are thinking about going to a local shop to have it duplicated for our 880 and 770.
Does any one else have the Engels brake assembly on their Oliver?
It is ideal for our hilly terrain in Western PA. We had brake latches on an 88 that could not be trusted to hold when the tractor was running. I learned the hard way to shut the tractor off in gear when dismounting on our hills. The latches clicked off and I just caught up to the old girl before she picked up serious speed. I was younger then. Today, she would have gone over the hill (LOL).

There was a post on Facebook about them. There were probably a half dozen that had them on their tractors. Looked handy.

I saw that. I sure was wishing my 77 had one yesterday when I was bending over trying to lock a brake. They're even worse on the older ones with band brakes and those short latches. I guess farmers were skinnier back in the day. LOL

That happened to my super 88, and broke the front axle out on a tree. Now I slip zip ties over the locks to keep them in place. Gets to be a pain in the butt, but better than fixing the front end back on again.

I must have learned how to do this wrong. I see several people talking about having to bend over to engage the brake locks. I learned to step on the right brake, reach over with my left toe and push the lock up into place. then do the same with the left brake.
