|

Hello all, first post here, hoping someone can help..
I broke the shear tube on my MF 240 plowing some snow, not sure why it broke but it is what it is..
I took off the side cover and confirmed it split by design. What is the trick for getting it out? The removable shaft just doesn't seem to have enough clearance to come out. I've tried putting the tractor in high and pulling it back but it just bumps into the drive shaft and wiggles a lot but won't come out.. I've scoured the forums and didn't see anything this specific so apologies if it's been answered. I can always take pics if needed.. Please help!!! |

Thanks Bob, this looks very similar.. I removed the pin, slid both pieces of the coupler to the front of the tractor and tried pulling back on the removable shaft and bump.. Will not come out, seems like it's close as it wiggles a lot but can't get enough clearance.. I must be missing something. |

Make sure the Hi-Lo-start lever is in Hi, or there's not enough room to get the shaft out. |

I may be wrong it's been 30 years since I replaced one in a 245 by removing the response control cover , but if I remember correct with the tractor in
high range the shaft between the hi/lo and the pinion will move to the side just enough to replace the coupler, I could be wrong I may have pulled the
shaft either way unless something has been changed they could be replaced thru the hole behind the side cover. |

OK I took the top off so I can get at it better and take some pictures to help explain.
As you can see from the photos the tractor is in HI but the HI gear is almost still fully engaged even when I have the shaft pulled out as far as it will go. Am I missing something stupid? It just doesn't seem like I have enough clearance to get it out.
