1935 John Deere B flywheel numbers

Have a small leak out of the seal on the crank, flywheel side. So I removed flywheel to clean up and reseal the gasket on that housing. Cork looked good. Anybody know what the 44 stamped into the flywheel is for? Right next to the TDC mark

I've been told that those numbers on the flywheel should match with numbers stamped into the end of your crankshaft if both items are original. Apparently, the flywheels and crankshafts were balanced as assemblies and those numbers were stamped into a matched assembly. The pictures are of my 1942 H - kinda hard to see because of the paint, but those numbers are "222".

You didn't change then $12 cork seal while you had it apart??

That makes sense Dan. I wonder if that
holds true for the clutch drive disk too. I
know both the flywheel and clutch driver
are unbalanced themselves and when
installed correctly they offset the
imbalance so that the flywheel, crank,
clutch driver, and pistons/rods are a
balanced assembly.

See now you are going to make me have to look at my 1935 JD B that my grand father got in 1940 to see if the numbers match.

Yes, looks like those two were matched at the factory.

Here are some shots of a '39 "H" in my shop.

I know the numbers are "supposed" to match, but I don't know the significance of the numbers. It would be interesting to see how many different numbers folks can report.

Never too old to learn something.. Just last night I got called to help a friend out on a 1939 or 40 A he's been working on. I assumed this tractor
had some kind of J/Deere Electric start kit installed on it, It's 4sp A But a slant dash push button start, This post got my attention . Low & behold the flywheel has a 33 along with a crank shaft stamped 33.. I had assumed this was build as a hand crank?

Mine's not on steel anymore. But I took apart clutch today and we have a 44 on the clutch driver so a match with the crank and flywheel. Somebody has had this apart before and didn't put the clutch driver back on in the keyed position. If I remember right the flywheel was on wrong too.
