Hey new to the forum here. I just purchased a 63 ford 4000 and was making a loud scratching noise and the starter flew off. Noise went away and ran great. Loaded it up and unloaded, popped clutch and fired right up and ran awesome. Pull the starter out and found it chucked #4 rod out of the block. I have heard these old 4 cylinder diesels used to have issues with #4 and just delete it, remove piston, and push rods and plug oil passage on crank. Only reason I ask is because it ran awesome on 3 cylinders. Or are these worth putting the work in to it to rebuild the motor? I've got roughly $1000 in it |

Being a new user here, you will need to make a few more posts here before you can post pictures. I think it's around five posts before able to post pictures. You may be better off parting it out at this point as you are not in too deep just yet and will be easier to get your money back out of it, maybe even come out ahead depending on the condition of the rest of the tractor. Was the tractor running alright when you first looked it over before purchase? |

Yes it just was making a squealing noise at the back of the engine by bellhousing area. Once the starter flew off it ran great idled all the way down on low idle and popped the clutch to start it off the trailer and fired right up. All with the hole in block without #4 rod connected. Just has me baffled it runs awesome without 4 lol |
