CIH 495 tire size

That's the best rear tire size for the Case 495? Mine currently has 16.9-24. It will be used for loader and hay work on a small cattle operation. thanks in advance!

My brother's CIH 495 has 16.9 x 28 rears filled with calcium, standard I believe was 14.9 x 28 rear tires.
He had a CIH 2250 loader on it but when he bought a larger round baler, the weight was wrecking the front end.
He bought a CIH 3230 (new model 595) and we swapped the 2250 loader on to it and 3230 handles the loader fine, it has 16.9 x 30 rear tires loaded.

"What's best" is such an open ended question...

Really, the best tire size is the one that is currently on the tractor, regardless of what it is, UNLESS you have identified one or more deficiencies that would be resolved with a different size tire, AND would justify the expense of seeking out new wheel centers and rims to mount the new tires on, IF they are more than one size wider or narrower than your current tire.

So do you have a complaint about the current tire size?

16.9x24 is a nice wide tire that should offer good flotation, and has roughly the same overall diameter as the stock tire size which is 13.6x28 if tractordata is up to date on their information.

thank you for the reply. the current tires are worn at different rates (25%, 75% tread). It seems that the 24 wheels are limited on tire options, I believe they are the industrial option. I am leaning towards
the 28 rims for more options but wanted to see others experiences.

Great info, thank you. I have the 2200 loader, which seems more fit for this machine. I'm between the 16.9-28 and 14.9x28. I'm in southwest Missouri so flotation and tractions are not an issue for me. I do like the added height the 16.9-28 would bring.

A little history on the machine. I purchased it at auction, it was owned by a Wildlife department. I believe for mowing trails and such. the left rear is worn much more that the right. which leads me to believe they were running roads between location or mowing ROW.

I appreciate the information and prior experience.

My 485 has 14.9x28s on it. Stock size-it had the oem Goodyears on it
til 2yrs ago. Mark.

Beware going too large on the rear tires. You've only got 36HP to work with, and the bigger the tire, the more power they take to turn.

Tractors that were spec'd for grounds care /LCG tended to have the smaller tires. Farm spec were the larger ones.

I'm running 14.9-28 & 7.50-16.

Tire size same as when new.

53 Engine HP no issue spinning those tires.

2200 loader is the best fit on these, just a pain to mount and dismount.

May put 16.9-28s on it if I ever wear out the current tires.

I ran a 4x4 baler for many years with it.

Our 574 which is about the same tractor had 16.9's on it when we got it new. It has had 18.4's on it since the first set wore out. We have never been sorry. It has been in a loader since new on a dairy so it has been treated like any other dairy farm loader lots of use and greased as needed. Used and abused like all loaders get on dairy farms. Front axle with the swept back design is not a good fit for a loader and the spindles are to small for it. The tires are loaded and about a 1000 in weights on it in the wheels both inside and outside.

Barnyard is right. The original size that is on there now is the best. However if you want to go with a 28" tire,you may need to go with a narrower(15.5/13.6...) tire to keep the back end level . Otherwise,it may sit very high in the rear.
