So I have an 86 Morbark woodchipper with a Ford BSD 444. What would it take to put a turbo on it, what would have to be built up or are they already capable of handling a turbo. Also would it even be worth it would I notice the extra bit of power or is it a waste of time. It's running fine just a bit of blue smoke so I'm thinking maybe the rings and have been contemplating rebuilding it while work is slower this winter. Let me know what you guys think thanks

If the motor is the same as a 6610, I heard it wouldn't like a turbo. The motor wasn't really setup for a turbo (I guess the pistons aren't lubed enough alone with other things). I wouldn't mind putting a turbo on our 6610. |

Yeah that's what I was thinking I think
it's the same as the 6610. Would be nice
with a turbo that's for sure. |

If you were only looking for a mild increase in power, like say 10%, a turbo shouldn't hurt anything. However, a true turbo engine (model BSD 444T) has internal upgrades meant to handle the added temperatures and pressures. This would involve primarily changing the pistons and rods. Then of course you'd need a bigger radiator, along with an oil cooler. It would get real expensive real fast. |

Yeah probably not worth it would almost be cheaper to put a different motor in it. It runs really good so should just leave it alone. |

Bern, he doesn't need to worry about the tree huggers. He is already chipping up their trees , LOL. |

Oh yeah there's been jobs the tree huggers
have stopped to cry about the tree and
tell us why we shouldn't take it down but
they don't live at the house and it's
usually a monster tree hanging over
someone's house. Had one lady say I hate
tree guys so I just fired up the chipper
an she left. |
