Cleaning parts using gasoline

I'm cleaning parts from grim, dirt, oils for repainting on my '51 8n, mostly just using gasoline as it works great.

Is there something I should be doing after cleaning with the gasoline to make sure a primer (or paint) sticks?

I'll use gas when to clean really caked on oil/grease but to get parts really clean and dry I soak, usually overnight, in straight Purple Power and rinse with hot water.
Prime quick or it will flash rust.

Nothing new, gas was developed for a cleaning solvent before someone thought of using it as fuel. It does liquefy the grease but some of it stays on the parts. The parts would still need to be cleaned again with some kind of grease remover afterwards. I often use
purple power and a power washer. Small parts you might rinse in naphtha or lacquer thinner.

After cleaning with gas,the only thing I do before painting, is spray the parts down with Brake Clean(not the
water base stuff)Red can from walmart.

Sometimes I wrap greasy things inside a wire-screen-mesh sorta-bag, throw it on the floor of the car wash, and let her rip on
Hot Soapy. Then rinse.

I've done the car wash thing too, before I had a pressure washer. Large castings, whatever I could manhandle into the back of the truck. Self serve car wash and a
pocket full of quarters. Leave the mess there and drive home.

I dont like it ,leaves to much residue to clean off for primer and paint . Better to putty knife on a drop cloths the thick crud and power soak detergent
set ,then high pressure washer power wash it. , what I think ,
