1150= 510 cu in 1155= 540 cu in. Long life engines, have heard of them with 20,000 hrs + and have not been apart. While others shot with a few 1000 hrs- poor care. 1155 much better cab. I have had 1155's with and without MW turbo. Engine not as smooth with the after market turbo. They were Never factory turboed. The MW turbo will add HP, but the turbo was a much smaller diameter air passage and it adds signifigant noise, which I don't care for. With a straight pipe and turbo= ear plugs. The add on turbo also makes govenor jumpy at lower rpms. I put in a solid clutch disc because it tore up spring clutches. The 1155 has some heavier gears in the rear end than what is used in the 6 cylinder tractors. My turbo 1155 runs at 175 hp easily and one turn of the pump screw will add 20 hp. I took tractor to a pull and opened pump and ran at 3000 rpm and it was putting out around 250 HP? I have had the 540 V-8 in about 10 Mf combines and they have been all good, never had one use oil other than one than previous owner ruined because combine air pre cleaner had impeller stuck with dry hard dirt and would plug air filter in a short time and starved engine for air and ruined rings. Those precleaners are essencial on a combine. The MF Multi- power is tough and long life also.

The turbo has nothing to do with a "jumpy governor", the Simms governor used on the 1150 is P5101, and 1155 is P5218. Both have internal weight cage cushion ring that when it fails governor will not be stable, usually at idle. There was a dampener that threaded into the governor cover, 504116 that took the surging out too, not sure it's available anymore. The P5101 had ball cam bearings, and P5218 came with tapered bearings, which can be installed in P5101 pumps. The 510 pump was set for 82 CC for 135 rated PTO HP, the 540 pump was set for 71 CC for 140 PTO HP. I had an Airresearch turbo on my 1150 years ago, that was set for 170 PTO HP and had NO exhaust smoke when under full load, unlike the M&W Gear turbo I took off that I bought the tractor with.

They added the dampener screw, not all pumps came with them. That tells there was a need. My 1155 turbo tractor has one. It helps but tractor will still gallop at slow speeds till engine warms up. A large dealer told me years ago that 1155 gallop was common with them.

I've never seen a 1150/55 that didn't lope at idle. Partly because of the leaf spring governor control they have too. The 540 combine pump had a different governor setup than the tractors used.

My Uncle has one. He bought it new in the 1970s.

As a kid I spent many hours sitting on the fender. I loved the tractor, and loved riding with him while he worked in the fields.

I still love to hear that V8 fire up and run. Never heard another tractor quite like it.

He still has it. It's no longer biggest tractor around. But it's still great to have a chance to drive it.

To Dieseltech: It seems that I have talked to you over the phone a time or two over the years? Are You in NW IA? I had the 2 2805 tractors featured in Heritage Iron Magazine in 2013? Have sold both since. Also I had a 1155 western for sale a few years ago.
