Tractor boxes

Are tractor boxes still a thing that has value ? I have about 20 that are about to be baptized by fire I hate to because I always loved the box as much as the tractor but I just don’t have storage for them anymore maybe they just as well be burned by the time I try and ship them ?

Depends on what the boxes are for. The run of the mill kids toys made over the last 40+ years, probably not. The empty, not shredded box for my original 3588 toy, yes. A box for the blue Ford wing disc, not really. A box for an Eska 560, yes. A box for a Key 2+2, yes again. On the other hand, if you burn a Key 2+2 box, the value of mine goes up 1/2¢. ;v)

Can't remember what it was for, but there was box sold on ebay awhile back got over 500.00. Just the box. That said most times no. Everybody saves them now. But if you have a nice box for a 1950's toy.........

I have a few precision series one boxes and a couple John Deere 1/8 scale boxes . And a few shelf model boxes . Guess they go up it smoke might make somebody else’s worth more I have no intention of ever selling any of these tractors they aren’t worth anything anyway

I hate to say it, but when it comes to 2+2's, I don't part with anything due to my affinity with those "new" IH tractors of my childhood. I remember them new on the lot & I remember my first & subsequent rides in one. I remember being PO'd when the Case merger happened & my great uncle (IH dealer) told me they weren't being made by the new company. It's just one of those things. I'm sure you have a tractor that's close to the same status.

My tire dock was just a couple feet away from the "Marriage Station" where the frt part of 2+2's was attached to the rear section, but even during the BIG STRIKE of '79 &'80 I never had time to run a 2+2 around, and I had a key for them on my personal keychain.
The guy around home who always bought whatever was new and red, and whatever farm ground that fit his quality standards, not too hilly, no creeks, not too many grass waterways, and a minimum of buildings to pay taxes on, but was about 1979 he was disking with his brand new 3588 right along the road and I pulled off and watched him for a while. Always seemed like the guys that talked badly about them had never ran one, never even sat in one, and were just sore that THEIR BRAND didn't make a 2+2.
IH made a BUNCH of them in the few years they built them. The new building and assembly equipment was supposed to build one complete tractor per hour, and they worked two 8 hour shifts per day, so 16 tractors a day. But they kept refining their assembly process and built 42 tractors per day most of the time they were built. But during 1982 thru '85 the whole FARMALL PLANT was shut down almost 50% of the time.

It really must have been something to see those get finished & sent out the door. I often wondered if those were shipped mostly by truck or by train? That's a lot of tractor to be shipped out one at a time by semi. On the other hand, my great uncle & cousin that ran the local IH dealership, would recall the days of sending a crew of five or six guys to East Moline to drive the new combines back here to the other side of West Bend in Wi. Always got a kick out of hearing that.

The only other tractor that came close to the 2+2, that I can think of, was the Versatile Bi-Directional. Personally wouldn't mind having a 160. That & a 3588 would have me in hog heaven.

Did you ever get a chance to drive a 2+2?

I would keep them, they add quite a bit of value sometimes, especially for 1/8 scale. I've seen some of the out of production 1/8 scale bring $500 plus each. Case 730 comes to mind. If you have a 4430 that is a $1000 replica now.

Why not just fold them flat and tie twine around them as they take up a lot less room that way. John in AZ

That is why these cabinets are built like they are. The boxes to every toy in the cabinet is in the bottom base. When folded down they use a lot less space.

There is a box I would like to buy if you have, if you decide to get rid of yours. Young grandson decided to tear open one I still had in the box.

Maybe more depending on what they are.

what box is it i always take out of box but normal keep the box so might have what you want.
