I don't have anything to do with moderation, but I frequently have to explain to people the issues surrounding it. I will give you my opinion.

If their posts are getting deleted regularly, and they persist in posting the same types of posts, they may be headed for a ban for not adhering to site policy. If the infraction is heinous, a single post could result in a ban, but that is not usually what happens, it's repeatedly pushing the envelope that most often causes a ban.

Multiple times lately people have asked me why they were banned. I don't know, because I have nothing to do with it, but I do know that the site policy has been violated repeatedly and often in a number of ways, so the person asking already knows why.

I am not defining site policy here, that is the forum moderator's business, but this subset are things that often happen:

1. Injecting politics or political innuendo into posts
2. Including jokes not suitable for young people, your pastor, your mother etc
3. Including words not suitable for young people, your pastor, your mother etc
4. Being nasty to someone else in the community even if you think they deserve it, no personal attacks ever no matter how cute they seem
5. Making light of moderation and attempting to get around it. One of the worst examples is "This will get poofed but.."
6. Defamation of people or businesses
7. Advertising

None of these are okay, even if they have slipped by sometimes. Repeating them will certainly result in a ban.

What not to do if banned? It doesn't help anyone to attempt to angrily communicate the case, it's just continuing the same behavior that resulted in the ban in the first place. Threats, accusations, and insults are, to put it mildly, counterproductive.

YT is not the place for any of this type of thing. If someone is banned, they have to decide if they made a mistake from the perspective of this community, or if the behavior they prefer just doesn't fit with this community. It's a great community and an honor for all of us involved in it, but for the person who would prefer a different sensibility, there are so many places on the net to practice that behavior, and I really can't understand why someone like that would even want to be in a place that requires old fashioned civility.
