Craftsman Gt 18 hp tractor

I have a briggs 18 hp twin in the garden tractor.The wiring was eaten up by mice and shredded.I started to rewire and was able to start it but when turn key to off it still runs.Ther is one black wire coming from the inside of engine not sure what to do help.Jim

You need to look under the cover and see where that wire goes. I am thinking that black wire probably goes to the ignition module and grounding that wire should kill the spark from the ignition module, stopping the engine. The other end of that wire from the ignition module should connect to whichever wire in the harness is grounded when the ignition switch is turned 'off'. But under no circumstances do you put 12v. to the ground terminal on the ignition module or you will probably have to buy another module.
