F2 Hydraulic Fluid getting hot

OK, OK. I know its hot. Probably 93-97 air temperature. Hadn't gone 200 yards when the hydraulic oil temp sensor goes off. And it wasnt because the wire came off.

My F2 is a variable. Hadn't replaced the filter for the hydraulic oil in a while. Could a plugged filter cause the heating?

Went to AGCO dealer where they said they had a filter. Was too big and apparently was for a later model. And they didn't have the right one. But their other store 2 hrs away had one. So I spent another 4 hrs on the road to go get a $17 filter. Hoping it takes care of the issue.

Yep. First time I changed the hydraulic filter on the K2, put the new filter in backwards and set the temp alarm off. Really scratched our heads on that til pulled the filter back out and tried another one (can't remember if first one was from napa or the second was) which had installation instructions in the box. Realized had the first one in backwards. A real DUH! moment. Paul

Changed the hydraulic oil filter. Didn't help.

Header seems to raise and lower fine, but the steering is nearly non-existant. It got hot enough just now, that it melted the water cooler plastic sight line on the tank.

What happens if the hydraulic pump starts going out?

The only thing I can think of right off is to check and make sure all spools in the valve block are centered. I've heard of one
getting bumped a little off center, and sticking there, and screwing everything up.

You have got a restriction somewhere. Like Bob said could be in the valve stack - one not centering right. With the steering being where you notice something different that might be a place to start. Need to trace out the oil flow path. Hot enough to melt the sight tube is extremely hot! Might have even burnt the oil necessitating an oil change. Been too long since we had a Gleaner for me to remember how the oil flowed through it though. Paul

Right on target. Last thing I did before it started overheating, was to retract the unloading auger. Valve was stuck. Had to clean the valve stack good before I found it.

I've got to be careful with it. Was able to run today without it overheating, until I came to unload grain. Then, the sensor went off again. Have to make sure it is centered
