So....was moving dirt yesterday and shifting from reverse to 2nd happened but did not feel/sound right.
Now it is stuck in gear, can't get it to shift anywhere, no go to neutral either.
Clutch works when pedal is depressed.
So unbolted tower and got it loose and up about 1 inch.
Won't come out further no matter how much wiggling and twisting of tower nor moving shifter as little as it will while lifting.
Does the front cover of hydraulic unit behind tower need to come out for a straight up and out for the tower?
Will tower not come off without being in neutral?
I don't think the snap ring in top of tower around lever will help ?

This is a 1957 5 speed prior to the gated shift tower.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Been years since I did one of these but as I recall: the hydro unit has to be moved. Drain oil, disconnect the lines and unbolt. Only have to move it aft a few inches, not necessary to take hydro unit off.
