Changing my 1850 from original 3 wire with regulator to a
1wire. Do I have to unhook the wires from the regulator or
can I just leave them hooked up?

There was a ground bolt on the new alternator, so I
hooked the old ground wire to it.

My 1550 had a 1 wire on it when I got it. No regulator and
the wires just hanging there. Not sure if I need to
disconnect wires from unused regulator or just leave it
alone. B Thanks,Chris

Doesn't really matter as far as function.

It would look better is you took it off and clean up the wiring. One less thing to possibly ground out.

Why on earth install a one wire in place of a three wire ? Battery drain . Needs high rpm to start charging .

I have a couple Cubs with Delco
one wire alternators, they start
start charging immediately, at an
idle...... I always unhook the
negative battery cable, when not
using, in case mice chew up
wires, short things out and start
a fire, hence no battery drain.

If you want to remove the 10dn the 10si is ok but don't use a one wire.

No battery drain , in your mind, but it is there. You can not prove that it isn't. Does it matter to you....obviously not. But don't try to fool the rest of the world with false hoods!

I have three tractors with the one wire Delco, all three charge right away after starting. All three have a very slight current draw with engine off, not a problem IF they only set unused up to two or three weeks. Any longer and the ground cable is pulled off or the ground disconnect is turned off. My 560D has two batteries, and one time it set in the shed unused for four months, batteries were completely dead as I forgot to turn off the ground switch. They charged back up OK, and I remember to use the switch now.

I'm with Steve and Old it doen't matter for function just less to contend with later or cause problems. The battery wire could possibly be used from the regulator as long as it goes back to the amp gauge or volt meter and not through the old regulator same with the ground direct to ground.

Id wrap the other wires on the one your doing and the 1550 up with tape to protect them in case someone wants to put it back how it was. Not to mention there could be power there that could cause a spark if not unhooked farther back
