I have a LS190 Hew Holland Skid Steer loader and recently it is just clicking when trying to start. It sits between uses so I thought maybe the batteries when not fully charged. I put in new Batteries last
summer and still have trouble. I suspect the seat belt safety switch or starter solinoid as after several tries it will start. That is not acceptable for going out to work on trees away from the building site
or anytime as without the engine running and getting the boom up it almost impossible to get to the engine. I am looking for suggestions to where to look for the problem. I have a Manual but not good at
knowing where to even look for a problem on these machines. I will appreciate any help?? Cleddy |

It COULD be ''bad''/worn contacts in the starter solenoid, a COMMON problem on little gear reduction starters. |

We have a John Deere 6675 which is basically a rebadged New Holland. At work we have somewhere around a dozen New Holland skid steers that use the seat belt safety for starting. All these machines will give a click when the key is moved from the off position to the first position which is accessory. Moving the key to the start position will give you nothing if the dealt belt isnt fastened or there is a problem with the wiring to the safety device. Meaning you will not get a click at the starter. If you are the problem is more than likely an issue with the starter, solenoid, battery, or wiring. A faulty safety device will not cause a click at the starter. Power would never get that far. Have had a bunch not start when water got down into the latch for the seat buckle and froze. That will still not allow the actual starter to click. You just get nothing when trying to start. I would start at the beginning with the batteries, connections, ect and go from there. |

Thanks for the suggestions and help. Last time I tried it started right off even after real cold day. I suspect starter contacts? I sure the problem will become more noticable as time goes on?? |

Yeah I would start with making sure all the contacts are good and clean. Battery everything. You can make sure your getting proper juice to the solenoid. If thats good Id look into solenoid and starter issues. I would suspect the problem to continue, and get worse. Another possibility is a bad wire somewhere which would show up while checking power at the solenoid. Id check that with key on and then when trying to start to see where it reads on a meter. After checking connections ect. |
