I found a Yellow Kid Thresher that has set inside all of its life. It still has most of the original pin stripping on it. It was belted up 15 years ago and ran 20 - 30 bushels of oats through it. It as bought new on the farm that it still sets on. It may possibly be bought in the distant future. I know this is a rare machine but has anyone seen or heard of one of these sell. I'd like to have a idea of where to start to make a offer if it does by chance come up for sale. Thanks

Rare threshers don't seem to bring a lot of money. You see them for sale around here - the ads usually start asking way too much ($2000+), and the owner will slowly start dropping the price bit by bit until it's in the $500 range. For a really nice one they might go as high as $1500, but rarity makes little difference on the price: The ones that command the most money are the ones wanted my the Amish/Mennonites, which are typically the more common Dion and McCormick threshers on rubber.

Even at the $500 price range, many don't sell get burned/scrapped, which is too bad. I've saved a couple, but you can't save them all. Just no real demand for them. If you have the room and want one I'd say offer a little more than scrap price and go up from there. I don't know the Yellow Kid ones except by name, but they look pretty cool from the Googling I've done. It would be a shame to see it sit outside and rust or get scrapped. That yellow colour would really good belted to a Moline U or similar. There aren't many parts that you couldn't fab yourself if you need them.

I think it has a 22 cylinder. I can measure it tomorrow. I personally knew the son of the guy that bought it new. I have seen a photo of the day it came in on a rail car. I have been told that they also made a Yellow Baby (smaller than a Yellow Kid) but I can't confirm that. This is the only Yellow kid I have ever seen but I'm told there is another one around the Columbia Missouri area. I saw a Yellow Fellow I think at Rollog Minn show. It is a wooden machine without grease zerks. It has the grease cups that you filled with grease and gave them a quarter turn every once in a while.

Does that mean anything to you?
